Mia Montelongo
Mia Montelongo is a freshman at the University of Texas at El Paso, majoring in Rehabilitation Science with a concentration in Physical Therapy. She has a growing passion for research and is currently gaining hands-on experience working with flow cytometry in a university lab. Mia enjoys working in team-based environments and is deeply motivated by opportunities to explore new scientific techniques. With a long-term goal of pursuing a Ph.D., she hopes to contribute to the advancement of rehabilitation science and help improve patient outcomes through research-driven care.
Mariana Frias
My name is Mariana Frias, I am an undergraduate senior majoring in biomedical sciences. I plan to attend medical school after graduation and focus on obtaining an M.D- Ph.D. My current roles in the laboratory include cell culture, breeding immunocompromised mice and working with other laboratory techniques.


Monica Cruz
Hello everyone! My name is Monica Cruz, and I’m a sophomore majoring in Biomedical Sciences at UTEP. I’ve been part of Dr. Francia’s lab for about a year, I’ve had the opportunity to learn valuable lab techniques, including immunohistochemistry (IHC) and mice work. This past summer, I participated in the COURI Summer Symposium, I’m excited to continue learning and contributing to the lab’s work!
